Thanks for sharing! Regarding criticism, I can certainly imagine a utopia in which everyone is helpful and constructive in a caring way, limiting the need for strategies like this. But I also think that sometimes are insecurities are so deep, that no amount of caring criticism is enough to prevent an emotional reaction. Moreover, I’m not sure preventing emotions is even important or necessary. Academia shouldn’t be harming people, but maybe there’s something important about pushing emotions. Maybe it helps us separate our ideas from our selves, and release them into the world to be used, adapted, and remixed, without us getting in the way.
